Ron is a graduate of Carson High School, and received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Brigham Young University in 1977 and his Juris Doctor degree from Pepperdine University School of Law in 1980. Ron received the Am Jur awards while at Pepperdine for excellence in criminal law and criminal procedure.
Ron returned to Nevada in 1980 and has practiced law in the Carson City, Gardnerville, Reno, Lake Tahoe, and outlying rural areas of Nevada continuously since then. He has practiced in a wide range of areas throughout the years, including criminal defense and appellate law, personal injury, workers’ compensation, civil litigation, bankruptcy, contract law, probates, estate planning, divorce, and family law. His current emphasis is criminal defense, probate, and estate planning, including wills and trusts and various related documents.
Ron was the original founder and first president of the Douglas County Bar Association in 1986. His practice has been reposed in the Old St. Gall Catholic Church, which he jointly purchased and renovated in 1984, until the present day. He has enjoyed tremendous success as an advocate and counselor on Main Street in Gardnerville since 1985. Ron's practice has ranged from municipal courts and justice courts, state district courts, the Nevada Supreme Court, federal district court, federal bankruptcy court, various administrative law courts, and tribal court to pro hac vice appearances in the Superior Court in California. Ron is licensed and qualified to practice in all the courts in the state of Nevada and has served as prosecutor, defender, chief judge, and juvenile drug court judge for the Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California. Ron has also served as an arbitrator in the court-annexed arbitration system for the First and Ninth Judicial District Courts.
While in law school, Ron served as editor of the law school newspaper. He also served as a law clerk and intern for the Van Nuys Public Defender's office and for a private civil litigation law firm in the Thousand Oaks, California area.
Ron has done a great deal of free legal work, including pro bono public work, during the last 30+ years, and his theme has always been advocating for the common man.
